Orlando publishers is the new fiction imprint of the Dutch publishing house AW Bruna. Orlando is the title of a novel by Virginia Woolf - a playful story in which the young man Orlando wanders for centuries across various continents, longing for passion, adventure and fulfilment. As imaginative as the character Orlando, Orlando Publishers will publish translated fiction from all over the world; authentic, inspiring and accessible literary novels with strong plots and detailed attention given to the development of characters.
Orlando publishers focuses on the female reader. She loves to be caught up in an exciting story, as reading is an escape from daily life to a secret place for her, a place where she seeks knowledge, discovers new worlds and finds joy, friendship and laughter.
Authentic, inspiring and involved are core words that refer both to the selection of titles as well as the marketing and sales. Around 12 to 15 titles annually will be published, so each title will get the necessary individual attention and supervision in order to produce beautiful books that will also sell. Therefore every title will be supported by a comprehensive marketing and publicity plan. Personal attention in the acquisition and editing combined with AW Bruna publishers’ powerful marketing and sales organisation, will be Orlando’s strength.
The first four novels will be available in the bookstores from the beginning of March 2010.
Orlando is aware of its responsibility towards the surrounding world. They aim to demonstrate that healthy commercial business can go hand-in-hand with both a socially and ecologically friendly way of doing business. All Orlando books are therefore produced on FSC paper and a portion of Orlando’s profits will be set aside for the foundation Micro Credits for Mothers, a Dutch foundation that provides women in Asia with small loans. The loans allow for investments with which these women can obtain a sustainable way to make a living.
